Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is an annual pilgrimage organised for Hindu devotees in the month of Shravan (July to August). The Holy Cave is where Lord Shiva narrated the story of Immortality to his consort Parvati. And before arriving at this secluded place, he released all his worldly adornments, such as Chanradev, snakes, all five elements and even his son Ganesha. Things to Remember During Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra
- Two routes are there to reach Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra. They are Baltal in Sonamarg and Chandanwari in Pahalgam.
- Barari Dome is the checkpoint for the route Baltal in Sonamarg, whereas for Pahalgam, it is Chandanwari.
- Baltal is a shorter route as compared to the traditional course of Chandanwari.
- Children below the age of 13 and adults above 75 are not allowed to undertake the Yatra.
- Pregnant women are also not allowed to trek the journey to the Holy Cave.
- Amarnath Yatra Health Medical Certificate is essential to carry on your journey.
- Women should wear salwar-kameez or tracksuit. Sarees are not allowed.
- If you want to avail of Helicopter services, do so in advance, for there is a huge demand.

Do’s and Don’ts During Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra
Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra is a challenging trek located at an altitude of 12,756 ft above sea level. Harsh weather conditions and strenuous trekking routes are given. However, pilgrims who have registered for the Yatra should also remember these essential tips for Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
Do’s
1. Ensure to carry your identity card and yatra permit.
Only a hard copy of your Yatra permit is acceptable. Even if you have registered online and have a digital ticket, it will only work if you show a hard copy of your receipt.
2. Carry extra heavy woollen & warm clothes
Weather is unpredictable but also cold where you are going. Pack only warm and woollen clothes such as sweaters, jackets, long bottoms like socks, neckerchiefs, warm hats, etc.
3. Maintain your physical fitness.
Start walking and running 4 to 5 km a day to ensure your physical health allows you to for the fitness needed to trek the route to the Holy Cave of Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
4. Pack high-protein, power-packed snacks
Keep refuelling your energy needs by munching on snacks that are easy and light to carry and that are highly nutritious, such as dried fruit, jaggery (sugar candy), glucose biscuits, dark chocolate, etc.
5. Always pack an emergency kit.
A journey as difficult as Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra needs you to pack a first-aid kit in case you find yourself or anyone else in danger or at risk of losing your health. One must always be prepared for unforeseen happenings. Therefore, prepare yourself best to mitigate the chances of error.
Don’ts
1. Do not litter
Maintain a clean and hygienic environment. You mustn’t litter while on this pilgrimage. Do not throw garbage or plastic anywhere, and make sure you respect your surroundings.
2. Do not eat or drink meat or alcohol.
Since this is a sacred pilgrimage, refrain from eating non-vegetarian foods or drinking alcohol.
3. Do not deviate from your actual path.
Avoid taking any shortcuts – make sure you stay in groups and do not deflect from your path.
4. Do not avoid mentioned warnings.
Do not ignore warning signs and follow the laid-out rules. Trying something on your own is dangerous because you don’t know the routes well.
5. Do not use plastics.
The use of plastics is strictly prohibited. It is punishable under the law. Avoid any activity that is harmful and disrespectful towards nature.
